You Tube Suspends Hundreds of Accounts

Last week a number of You Tube accounts were terminated for alleged violation of You Tube policies.  Account owners were not given any warning or any indication what was wrong.

This has caused a lot of heartache for many account owners, many of whom had hundreds of free videos. One account that was suspended was popular Blogger Darren Rouse.

His account was reinstated after he wrote an Open Letter and gained support from his reader and twitter community.  Another account which had been in good standing and which had its limitations removed on video length was suspended for apparently using the word “You Tube” in the title.

This is a great reminder to ensure that you comply with You Tube terms and conditions as well as ensure you don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

Here are some tips to help keep your You tube account in good standing:

  • Ensure you own the copyright or have permission to use any images and music you feature in your videos
  • Follow You Tube community guidelines
  • Put any videos that are commercial in nature on your own self hosted account.
